Lendon Scantlebury
Painting
In my paintings I try to bring out the bright freshness that I once experienced. The light is so strong and the colours so vibrant, it reminds me of where I came from and who I am, and it gives me a sense of well being.
We need to take time to notice the changing environment and 'watch the clouds go by' because here we move so fast. I don't hear people talk enough to each other about those things. In 'paradise' people move slowly, there is no need to hurry.
There is a reason why I paint figures with no features; it is because here we don't express ourselves the way I remember as a child. What I try to capture is the essence of the person and their body language and for me that says more of the truth.
